The Supreme Court granted leave to proceed in the fundamental rights violation case filed by senior journalist and Sunday Times columnist J. A. Tissanayagam against his alleged unlawful arrest and detention by the police.
Two backup security officers of the Air Force Commander Roshan Goonethilake were injured in an accident and admitted to the Colombo National Hospital a short while ago. Hospital sources claimed that one officer was in serious condition.
Science fiction writer Arthur C. Clark has died. He was most famous for his novel 2001: A Space Odyssey, and for collaborating with director Stanley Kubrick on the film of the same name.
